VA Medical Center Receives Important Donation
to Support Veteran's Care

On January 28, 2008, the Durham VA Medical Center received a donation in the amount of $10,000 from Azalea Charities, Inc.  In making this substantial donation, the charitable organization, headquartered in Dumfries, Virginia, noted:  “We recognize the nature of the injuries and the costs incurred by family members in supporting their wounded soldiers and that is what inspired us to initiate a program of contributions to VA Medical Centers through their Voluntary Service Divisions.”  The donation is earmarked to specifically support care for veterans of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Medical Center Director Ralph Gigliotti praised the generosity of Azalea Charities “Aid for Wounded Soldiers Project,” and announced that a special post fund will be set up in their name to support services to this special group of veterans.  Director Gigliotti noted that this donation is a “visible expression of appreciation to all of our military men and women and their families for their sacrifices, and lends support for their recovery.”

Azalea Charities, Inc is a Northern Virginia based regional non-profit organization that raises funds to benefit area youth and other identified special needs projects.

Azalea Charities, Inc. is a 100% volunteer corporation with no paid employees. All officer and board member contributions are used to pay the Administrative operating costs of the corporation.  Excess funds are either placed in a reserve fund or distributed in part or whole to the benefiting charities.

The efforts of Azalea Charities, Inc. are two-fold:  to provide financial support to and tell the story of identified charities.  Azalea Charities, Inc. funds are derived from individual/business memberships, Azalea Classic Pro-Am Invitational and other fund raising opportunities. One hundred percent of membership monies go directly to charities supported.  Azalea Charities is proud to acknowledge being listed on the Department of Defense List of Acceptable Charities.
