Highlights of the past year show our
dedication to the Aid for Wounded Soldiers project

The 2008-2009 fiscal year that ended on June 30, 2009 was a busy time for our Aid for Wounded Soldiers projects. This was highlighted at the recent Azalea Charities Annual Meeting when members and friends listened to a list of accomplishments compiled by USN Captain (Ret) George Kraus, who is the Azalea Charities Vice President Special Projects / AWS.

  1. Aid for Wounded Soldiers had 305 contributors this fiscal year (not including the Marine Corps Marathon)

  2. Recovery support included hospital visits, sports equipment, food, art supplies, games and multiple professional sporting event opportunities in DC

  3. Individual visits and financial help to families supported Ward 57, Walter Reed, Bethesda, Malogne House, Fisher House and others. Special thanks to Debra Washington and Thom Bradford for facilitating this outreach.

  4. Financial help for amputee and his mother to visit their family in Columbia, South America

  5. VA hospitals supported globally to cover the needs of wounded members and their families

  6. Partnerships with other non-profits to assist in car repairs, rent, furniture, etc,,,

  7. Christmas dinner provided for over 50 wounded soldiers and families at Giorgio's.
    A special visit was made by Santa Claus.

  8. Crisis Link and Army 24/7 Family Hotline training

  9. Continued outreach with other parallel organizations to meet the needs of our wounded
